So I got the 318i home and started cleaning it. I have until 6/9 to get it presentable. It sat for 16 years so the paint is oxidized very badly. (non clearcoat) The seats are completely dry rotted..these are 80s horsehair seats so they are pretty bad. Oddly the dash is flawless..weird eh? Over the next couple of weeks and on a very limited budget I will try to get this thing decent. Pull-a-Part has a 318ti (e36) woth manual leather sport seats i might pull tomorrow and a 325e with a black interior that I might have some luck with but I doubt it..it's been there a few months. The interior smells bad too so i need to stem clean the carpets or scavenge black ones from a wreck. On the plus side it has only ~90k on it and its a 5speed. Plus it only has 2 easily fixable rust spots.
Very oxidized:
Sun bleached interior with the proper number of pedals:
Discovered I will have to wet sand the whole car..rubbing compound isn't going to cut it...
C-pillar Before:
And after a 2000g wet sand and 3m rubbing compound plus a quick carnuba wax:
And a side by side on the hood:
That's all I got to today..just a quick discovery session..see what I will have to do. Looks like a lot but should be OK.
I also want to put a decent cat-back on and some new roundels..
